National Grid Pylons Proposals

As you may be aware National Grid has submitted a request to the Planning Inspectorate for a Development Consent Order.
That is the “planning application” which in the end will allow them to go ahead if their proposals are approved by the Secretary of State.
The Planning Inspectorate has accepted the plans for examination and each of us now has only a short time to register and give make representations.
The deadline for submission is 23:59 on 27 November 2025, just a few weeks from now.

Sadly National Grid failed to take full account of our feedback to their consultations and dismissed most of our requests. Although we did win a section of undergrounding between Great and Little Horkesley that is not enough and there will still be a huge amount of damage to our villages and to the Dedham Vale.
Let's force National Grid to give all that they should to minimise harm here. We have been told that over 10% of the feedback from all areas was from these few villages and that that was in part why we won our undergrounding.
We can, and must, do it again!
Unfortunately giving feedback is not quite as easy this time. Because it is a Government process it needs to be done on a Government website and you cannot simple ‘email in’ as we did before.
The Government website is here.
What you need to do:
1) follow that link
2) provide them with your details
3) set out your objections, focussing on:
-
the harm to you and your property
-
the harm to the Dedham Vale
-
the harm to our Villages
There is a model response for you in 11 key points here.
Please feel free to copy and paste it as it is, to throw it away entirely and use your own words, or anything in between.

The important thing is that you have your say.
THIS IS THE ONE THAT COUNTS.
You will notice that the text relies heavily on arguments about policy and keeps mentioning the Dedham Vale. This is because as we said at the very start, this is one of the few strengths we have in this area - we have protection in policy and in law. Most areas don’t have that in such a strong way.
It exists for a good reason - the Dedham Vale is important nationally. It is not just us saying it, Government policy acknowledges it. We should not be afraid to use this as a strength.
We can submit ONE RESPONSE PER PERSON. Lets make Government hear us!
