St Peter & St Paul Church

A faithful Christian presence at the heart of our delightful village

Part of the Church of England in the Diocese of Chelmsford and the Deanery of Colchester.

Our church is almost 900 years old.

Well, actually, the bricks and mortar only date back to 1958, but there has been Church worship here sine the 12th century.

More importantly, we have a friendly 21st century church family, always ready to welcome visitors and members; to worship with us, to pray privately in peaceful surroundings, or to visit the building, which is open during the daytime, every day.

May we invite you to become part of the Church family, by attending our church services and local events, and hope that this page encourages you to be part of the Christian life of our lovely village.

Services

Our Sunday Morning Service is at 11am each week.
On the second Sunday of the month we hold a Family Service, and Holy Communion is given on the 4th Sunday of each month.

We continue the tradition of Evensong each Sunday evening at 6:30pm. On the 3rd Sunday go the month, Evensong is followed by a shortened service of Holy Communion.

At 8am on the 1st Sunday of the month, we have a short service of Holy Communion. This is a gentle and quiet start to Sunday where it is easy to spend quality time with God.

Special services are held to celebrate Festivals such as Christmas, Easter and Harvest.
Full information and all our news appears in  our monthly magazine which is delivered to every home in the Village

Weddings and Christenings

Our church has been at the centre of the community for centuries, as shown in our registers of marriages and baptisms, and it is a pleasure for us to celebrate life's milestones in a Church Service.

Anyone with a qualifying connection to the Parish or Church can be married in the Church; there is no requirement to be a Churchgoer.

We regularly hold Christening services and always make sure the children and families are made especially welcome.

The Church building

The building has a remarkable history; we invite you to see and read about the church in centuries past; its destruction o 21st September 1940, the rebuilding and the beautiful interior - then perhaps purchase one of our booklets.
Our church bells can be heard for miles around, and there are many spectacular walks and views in the neighbouring countryside.

Our Vision

We believe God has placed us here to be a distinctively Christian presence, serving God and the people of Little Horkesley with love and generosity in the way Jesus undertook His ministry. Our Mission Statement is that we vow to be a people of worship, fellowship and community.

Community Events

We hold a Coffee Morning in the second Saturday of each month from 10am - 11:30am at Little Horkesley Village Hall, just to enjoy a chat with villagers, Church members and visitors. We also enjoy other events held at the Village Hall. We hold a Farm Walk each summer and our members are keen to support activities which take place around the village.

Local Churches

Our Church is part of a group of Churches in the local area; we work closely with our neighbours at St Andrews Wormingford and the St John the Baptist in Bures.
We are part of the Deanery of Colchester, and are governed by the policies and practices of the Diocese of Chelmsford.
